Some Residents in Moyamba have called on civil society groups, Anti-corruption commission (ACC) and other agencies to investigate and give positive result on alleged corrupt practices at the council.
It is alleged that the council is receiving its own source of revenue from Sierra Rutile and Vimetco mining company in the district.
As some expressed dissatisfaction over the use of the said revenue paid by the two companies, some residents revealed that, the council is generating revenue from other areas in the district such as ministries and agencies but there has been no proper accountability on how the council is using it funds.
The chief administrator for Moyamba district council Philip Sama in an interview with A-z, admitted that the council has received Le700, 000,000 from Sierra rutile for 2020 while they are at present waiting for 2021 revenue sources.
When asked how they have used the money he disclosed that, due to the late disbursement of the money, it is still in the council’s account but added that they are planning to use the money for developmental projects in the district.
Philip Sama was also questioned about the garbage trucks that were bought for waste management in the district as a way of improving on waste management.
He replied that the truck has been contracted to one driver for commercial delivery, which some believe that the truck was not used for its intended purpose.
The chief administrator further said, that council has received funds from the road maintenance fund(RMFA) for the construction of feeder roads in the district and the council has awarded contract to contractors whiles revealing that, they are closely monitoring all works.
He ended up by assuring that the district council will use all monies that they are receiving for the right purposes.
