Department of Service Delivery and Performance Management in the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) have empowered both the academic and administration staff of the Eastern Technical University (ETU) with requisite skills and knowledge to enhance quality service delivery on the Government priorities.
The engagement took place at Eastern Technical University Conference Hall in Kenema on Wednesday, 28 September 2022.
In his welcome statement, the Registrar of the Eastern Technical University, John Juana, expressed his profound thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development for coming to the University to empower them by delivering the needed services that are in line with the government priorities, with special reference to the human capital development in the Medium National Term Development Plan (MTNDP), 2019 – 2023.
He said that as a new University, it is committed to ensuring the actualization of the Human Capital Development, noting that their engagement with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development coincided with the University developing a five-year strategic work plan that will guide them deliver on their mandates that is line with the government priorities.
Mr. Juana said that the ambition as leaders is to ensure that we succeed in what we do but we are also to look into the realm of resources available in terms of the human to make sure that there is result in what we do.
The Head of Engineering Department at the Eastern Technical University, Ing. Great-man Sulaiman Mansaray said performance contract is key in order to position well the government to deliver on its priorities.
Earlier, while giving the purpose of their engagement, Director of the Department of Service Delivery and Performance Management in the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Robert Tamba Moikowa stressed on the importance of Tertiary institutions as key players in the implementation of government priorities.
He pointed that said their work as a University should be result based ,as the seminar is aimed at reviewing the 2022 Annual Work Plan (AWP) and the implementation status and also to discuss the key performance indicators and the determinants of achievements and challenges.
According to him, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is also focusing on tertiary institutions staff because of the discussion on the 2023 budget has started, so that they will be positioned well for the utilization of the available resources.
Dr. Moikowa said that the review seminar is part of the support of Government to all Agencies and Departments of Government, in preparation for the 2023 Budget process in order to position public sector performance for effective Service Delivery.
According to him, they want ETU Staff to be abreast with the key priorities of the government and that the presentation of the MTNDP was done so that it will be accessed by all.
Receiving the Medium Term National Development Plan, the Vice Chancellor and Principal of Eastern Technical University, Professor Julius Sandi thanked the Minister of Economic and Development Planning for presenting the Medium Term National Development Plan to the University to guide them in the implementation of their work plan that will be drawn from their strategic plan that will be anchored on the MTNDP.
He assured MoPED that it will be used for by the University to enhance quality service delivery.
