The Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rev. Dr. Jonathan Titus Williams, has called on the residents of Destiny Village and Home Leone’s Staff to address their long-term impasse which has brought a standstill between the communities at Mabrown Village, Newton.

Dr. Jonathan Titus Williams highlights the significant of the mediation in which he said was to settle the discord between residents and the management team of Home Leone.

He noted that Home Leone is a Lutton based charity in Sierra Leone dedicated to alleviating slum conditions for the worlds` poorest. Dr Williams stated that Destiny Village was part of larger initiative to provide low-cost housing, jobs opportunities, education, health care to vulnerable populations in Sierra Leone.

“‘The impasse rooted in a dispute over ownership and benefits had prompted residents to seek intervention from the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development,” Rev Dr. Titus Williams said.

Mr. Peter N. Sam Kpakra, Development Secretary at MoPED, in his statement he commended both parties for their restraint amidst challenging circumstances and emphasized the ministry`s commitment to overseeing NGO operations while acknowledging economic hardships exacerbating tensions. The head of youth in the Residents, Ibrahim Kabbia voiced frustration over perceived deception by home Leone management, urging government intervention to address their grievances.

Additionally, Mr Shar Ndomaina, Home Leone’s General manager expressed gratitude for MoPED’s mediation and efforts and urged expedited resolution. Mr. Shar Ndomaina also pledges commitment on behalf home Leone management to continuing their developmental work in the community and work hand in glove with the people of the community.

Dr. Titus Williams underscored the importance of peace and security, urging restraint and warning against unwarranted unrest. He also pledged thorough review of concern, emphasizing the need for legally binding agreement regarding rents, tenancy and arrears.

Dr. Titus Williams also called on religious leaders and community leaders to advocate for peace and announced plans for urgent negotiations facilitated by MoPED.

Dr. Titus Williams concluded the meeting by saying there is a renewed commitment to dialogue, underscoring the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable solution for Home Leone and its residents.
