The Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE) has successfully concluded its Civic Day Series on Tuesday, 30th September 2025, in New Carrolton, Maryland, United States. This event marked another significant milestone in the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to “bringing government closer to the people, both at home and abroad.”

The event brought together Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora, government representatives, and community leaders for an open dialogue on national development, civic responsibility, and the importance of unity. It provided a platform for citizens abroad to engage directly with the government, share concerns and ideas, and contribute meaningfully to Sierra Leone’s progress.

During the opening session, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh delivered the keynote address, underscoring the critical role of civic engagement as a driver of national unity and sustainable development. He urged Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora to remain active participants in the nation’s transformation, emphasizing that government policies are most effective when they reflect the voices of citizens both at home and abroad.

Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, reiterated that the Civic Day Series aims to bridge the gap between the government and its citizens, promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusion. He emphasized that Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora are a vital part of the nation’s development journey. Minister Bah reassured the diaspora that their voices are valued and that the government is committed to policies that address their needs and aspirations.

Participants praised the initiative and commended MoICE for extending the Civic Day Series beyond Sierra Leone’s borders, describing it as a meaningful opportunity for the diaspora to connect with the government. Many expressed optimism that such engagements will continue to foster stronger ties between Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad.

With the successful wrap-up of the Maryland edition, the Civic Day Series continues to be recognized as a transformative platform for dialogue, civic responsibility, and inclusive nation-building. It is widely hailed as a resounding success amplifying voices across communities and reinforcing civic responsibility as a cornerstone for national progress.
