60 yrs old Mohamed Bangura was before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road court in Freetown on the 16th February, to answer to a count charge of fraud.
It was alleged that he obtained the sum of fifty million Leones from complainant Michael Jusu, vehicle merchandise by falsely pretending that he has one Spot Edition car for sale.
Narrating what transpired between the two, second Prosecution witness Mohammed Bangura said on the 3rd of November 2020, complainant instructed him to go and check a vehicle at Model junction ( somewhere in Freetown) which the accused told him was for sale.
He said on arrival at the point where the vehicle was parked, he opened it and went on to test the car at Fourah Bay College.
The witness said after testing the vehicle, he went back to informed the complaint that the only problem he suspected was that the vehicle has an under carrier problem which the accused promised to rectify. Explaining further, the witness said complainant and the accused had negotiated and that complaint paid the sum of fifty million Leones to the accused.
“My lord after paying the money, the accused handed over the key and other documents, but promise to come with the jack and wheel puller,” witness stated.
The witness continued that he waited for the tools which the accused promised to come with, but to no avail.
In continuation of his testimony, the witness said few hours’ later the complaint instructed him to go and collect the car, but was unable to move it because those he met told him clearly that they will only allow him on the order of their boss-the accused.
“I argued that complaint has already paid for the vehicle but they gave deaf ears,” he stressed. He said it was at that point they move to the Criminal Investigation Department am reported the matter.
Testing the evidence by defence counsel C. Campbell, the second witness said he was present when the transaction was made. The matter adjourned to 17th February, 2021.
