Prioritizing undivided change and standardized hospital situation to well cleaned and hygienic environment, Ministry of Health has commissioned newly renovated surgical hall to the Management of Connaught Hospital in a bid to boost its operationalization on Thursday 7th December, 2023 in Freetown.
Professor Charles Senesie, Deputy Minister 1 of Ministry of Health said the well-furnished surgical hall is a testament in realizing their profession gains regards of the numerous challenges the hospital underwent years back.
He furthered that for management to single-handedly achieve this milestone by galvanizing resources, serves as one of the success stories in the history of Connaught Hospital as well as Ministry of Health. “This surgical hall has always been known as one of the best we use to have,” Prof Senesie said.
He encouraged the entire management of Connaught Hospital to continue implementing rapid progress in terms of cleaning, patient safety and staff welfare among others.
Prof. Senesie thanked the team for making such a bold achievement, as well changing the narrative of the hospital. He affirmed that more supports would be offered to further mobilize the given materials in order to uplift the hospital to higher height.
Dr. Ibrahim Kapuwa revealed that progress is being made through the championing of regular cleaning exercise, beautification efforts and environmental enhancement.
“We aim to create an atmosphere that is conducive to healing,” Dr. Kapuwa said.
He added that they have implemented periodic general cleaning and fumigation exercise in the premises together with security and visibility system.
Dr. Kapuwa mentioned that patient safety remains paramount within his tenure; adding that they have installed a number of solar floodlights within the entire hospital to foster security and improve feasibility especially at night.
He said the management has streamlined service delivery through the continuous efforts of the doctors in order to ensure a standardized and efficient approach to healthcare delivery.
“The inception of the electronic medical records mark a significant progress in precision, efficiency and patient confidentiality,” Connaught Hospital Care Manager revealed.
Dr. Kapuwa affirmed that the management has launched electronic medical report which discourages traditional paper base to digitalized system. He stated that their commitment to patient upgrades is a testimony to the ongoing rehabilitation of units in order to create more beds space as the population continues to soar in the country.
He said they have equally encouraged staff motivation and productive through the introduction of Staff of the Month Award, which acknowledges the tireless efforts of the various staffs who work hard to enhance exceptional professionalism.
Mbalilu Osaio Kamara, Deputy Senior Matron of Connaught Hospital said the hospital has provided service training to management of Mercy ship for pre-intral and post-surgical nursing care. She added that they have maintained diagnosis practices particularly to different nursing department in the hospital. “We have institutionalized nursing care in different sectors,” Deputy Senior Matron.
She revealed that Connaught Hospital has partnered with other institutions for the attainment of induction training for both new nurses and student nurses within the country.
