The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs (MoGCA) has convened a high-level validation meeting with various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to assess the implementation of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act.
The meeting aimed to review progress made so far and to validate the Draft Gender Accountability Framework, reaffirming the Government of Sierra Leone’s commitment to promoting gender equality and strengthening institutional accountability.
During the engagement, stakeholders examined the status of the GEWE Act, which seeks to advance gender equality across all sectors of society and safeguard the rights of women and children. The discussions provided MDAs with an opportunity to share insights on challenges encountered during implementation and to propose practical solutions to enhance the effectiveness of gender-responsive policies.
Participants underscored the importance of establishing a strong accountability framework to monitor, measure, and report on the impact of gender equality initiatives. The Draft Gender Accountability Framework presented outlines key performance indicators and mechanisms designed to promote transparency, accountability, and measurable results within public institutions.
The meeting brought together representatives from diverse sectors, united by a shared commitment to advancing gender equality in Sierra Leone. It also served as a collaborative platform, encouraging MDAs to take ownership of gender-related commitments and to integrate them into their institutional mandates and development agendas.
By validating the Draft Gender Accountability Framework, the Ministry aims to establish a structured and results-oriented approach to tracking progress and ensure that gender equality remains a priority within national development planning.
As Sierra Leone continues its journey toward sustainable development, the high-level meeting highlights the government’s dedication to gender equality and the empowerment of women, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable society.
