Mogbewmo Queens FC Bolsters Squad With Seven New Signings

The Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League maiden edition champions Mogbewmo Queens FC has over the weekend,  unveiled seven new players at the Koidu Community artificial turf in Kono District before a warm-up encounter with the Sierra Leone Female All-Stars in intensifying preparations for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League zonal qualifiers set to take place in Liberia.

The seven players unveiled were; Matilda Kabba, Mariama Sambo, Mariama Barrie, Saio Quraishi, Jariatu S Kamara, Fatmata L Kamara and Mahawa Traore.

Winger Matilda Kabba completed a move to the club from kahunla Queens following her outstanding performance in the maiden Women’s Premier League, she netted the first goal of the league and registered 22 goals and 17 assists.

Mariama Sambo a sensational attacking midfielder who was scouted during the WAFU Zone A Women’s U-20 tournament hosted in Sierra Leone for the Guinea Bissau U-20 side, had also penned down a deal with the club.

She played a vital role for her former side Sporting Clube Da Guiné Bissau to clinch the 2022/2023 championship, registering 44 goals contribution in fourteen appearances scoring sixteen goals and made twenty-eight assists.

Striker Mariama Barrie a Guinean who had a remarkable spell with VEM Buck FC in the 2022/2023 Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League season, is now part of the Champions and has started exhibiting her goal scoring prowess when she scored in the 78th minute during their friendly encounter to help her side defeat Sierra Leone Female All-Stars a squad that comprised of players of both the senior female national team Sierra Queens and the U-20 side Shooting Starlets.

And also scoring four goals in their second friendly with Rising Stars from Makeni.

Another player is the central defender Saio Quraishi and Jariatu S Kamara an attacking midfielder who can also deploy as a winger have joined the club as free agents from Turkey.

Again, the goalkeeping area has been reinforced with two outstanding shot stoppers Fatmata L Kamara from Sierra Leone Police FC and Mahawa Traore a Guinean who was on loan to Patricia Humu FC in the 2022/2023 Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League season from Club Olympique de Ratoma C.O.R.

Duramani M Janneh, the Head Coach of mogbewmo Queens FC commended the management for providing him the support needed by the technical team for the club to make a mark in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League staying “I’m satisfied with the depth and quality of players we’ve acquired to bolster the squad ahead of our first-ever continental tournament”, he asserted.
