Mob Justice Criticized: CID Probes Fatal Clash in Njala Mokonde

The Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) South has initiated a thorough investigation into the tragic demise of an unidentified male in Njala Mokonde, Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District. The incident, stemming from an alleged theft of cassava from a local farm, resulted in a fatal altercation, prompting widespread condemnation of vigilante justice.

Reports indicate that the victim was apprehended in the act of theft by a group of farmers and villagers. Subsequently, he faced brutal beatings before authorities were notified. Despite attempts to administer medical aid, the victim succumbed to his injuries before further inquiry could take place.

Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr. Brima Kanneh, has assured the public of a meticulous investigation into the matter. Presently, nine suspects have been apprehended for interrogation. However, the motive behind the theft and the identity of the deceased remains veiled in uncertainty.

The incident has ignited outrage over vigilante justice practices, prompting authorities to urge individuals with pertinent information to come forward and aid in the investigation. AIG Kanneh underscored the Police force’s unwavering commitment to upholding justice and ensuring accountability for the tragic demise of the individual involved.
