In an interview with one of the community stakeholders Pa – Alhasan Kamara he lamented the dire situation they are facing in lack of health facility which accounts for the alarming trend of sicknesses among residents.
“Residents in this locality lack poor toilets and water facilities and we are calling on stakeholders and humanitarian to come to the rescue before a major outbreak of water borne diseases.”
Fish monger Ramatu Bangura also said that poor water facility is major challenge and their kids go all around fetching water which makes them get late for schools.
She further said that most of the community youth defecate close to the sea and the major harassment of roaming pigs poses a social discomfort.
One of the boat owners within the area Mohamed Conteh further said that they are calling on the attention of Non- Governmental Organisation (NGOs) to make interventions that will salvage their grim situation rather than waiting for an emergency.
He suggested capacity building schemes for the jobless youths in the community to create a means of livelihood for them.
.
He however noted that most of the youths in this locality do want to engage themselves in training activities when they are opportune. Youth in the slum community rather survive on sand mining.
