President Julius Maada Bio has on Sunday 23rd April, 2023 signed the progressive alliance for transformational development with the leader of one of the opposition parties, Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella of the national grand coalition party (NGC).
This came by as a long agreement between the two leaders for the improvement of a sustainable peace and development in the nation and how both can share their knowledge to working hard and maintain a prosperous Sierra Leone.
In his statement, the president disclosed that, the alliance was geared towards peace, stability and the total development of Sierra Leone.
The president furthered in paying homage to the founding fathers and wished that, they were here to witness the happy and memorable scene.
A-Z reporter took to the streets to get the reactions of Sierra Leoneans on the new alliance formed.
Mohamed Kanneh a Trader who deals in luxury ladies bags and shoes said he is happy for the alliance, he said he believes the alliance is in the best interest of Sierra Leoneans and that Sierra Leoneans should be happy for such democratic force that changes the face of politics.
Mr Silaty Daboh a Bsc holder in Banking and Finance, MA Sustainable Development in concentration in Economic Development.
According to him, he said the importance of the alliance is to increase the political influence, improve electoral outcomes and ensure that opposition parties work together with the incumbent government to improve on the diverse challenges facing the country.
He also states that as a country that has been faced with corruption, forming an alliance would be great to combat the menace. Furthermore, he said the alliance can be beneficial to the economic growth of the country.
He recounted back to the alliance that was formed between the APC and PMDC and how it created a stabilized economic growth in the country.
He also stated that this alliance will help to increase trade and create larger market economy and create opportunities for both parties having different connections to help boost the country.
He showered praises on Dr Kandeh Yumkella been a man of integrity and politically inclined and as such his connections over the years would foster good will and connect partners from across the globe to help boost the economy.
Mohamed Bangura a retailer who deals in jewelries expressed disappointment and dissatisfaction over the alliance as according to him Dr Kandeh Yumkella was the hope for a better Sierra Leone and now that hope he says has been crushed by his selfish interest.
He states that Dr Kandeh Yumkella would have sought the interest of youths who believed in him and his vision before taking such steps.
He said a lot of them voted for him in the past election and was hopeful of doing the same or even more to make him the next President but this he said Dr Kandeh Yumkella has vowed to defeat and Mediocre as a leader and they as party supporters.
Mabinty Kamara a retailer who deals in quality human hair also expressed her dissatisfaction over the alliance as they hoped that Dr Kandeh Yumkella would be the next Peter Obi of Sierra Leone.
