The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) is actively engaging stakeholders as part of Sierra Leone’s preparations for the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, scheduled to take place in Seville, Spain, from June 30 to July 3.

This stakeholder engagement process is designed to align national priorities with global financing discussions, focusing on innovative strategies for sustainable development. As part of Sierra Leone’s participation, a proposed side event will focus on the theme: “Strengthening Domestic Resource Mobilisation: Scaling Up Mineral Wealth and AgriTech.”

This theme underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to leveraging its abundant natural resources and untapped agricultural potential as key drivers of economic growth and development.

The international conference will convene global leaders, finance ministers, and development experts to explore effective financing strategies that can accelerate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By prioritizing domestic resource mobilization, Sierra Leone aims to boost its capacity to fund essential services and infrastructure, thereby reducing its dependence on external aid.

The chosen theme for the side event is particularly timely, given the country’s rich endowment of mineral resources and underutilized agricultural sector. By highlighting these areas, the government hopes to attract investment, stimulate job creation, and promote long-term, inclusive economic development.

MoPED’s engagement with stakeholders across government institutions, the private sector, and civil society is essential to formulating a cohesive and inclusive national strategy one that reflects the needs and aspirations of the Sierra Leonean people.

As the countdown to the conference continues, MoPED remains committed to finalizing a comprehensive and impactful agenda that positions Sierra Leone as a proactive and strategic participant in the global dialogue on financing for development.
