In a significant move to enhance communication efforts for the upcoming 2026 Population and Housing Census, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education has concluded a two-day workshop focused on message development and strategic communication.

Held on July 30 and 31 at the Sierra Palms Hotel, the workshop was organized in collaboration with Statistics Sierra Leone.

The event brought together a diverse group of participants—including media professionals, civil society representatives, bloggers, communication experts, and musicians with the aim of developing an effective publicity strategy for the census.

This collaborative approach underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the census is accurately represented and effectively communicated to the public.

The workshop aimed to equip attendees with the tools and strategies needed to promote the census, emphasizing the importance of public awareness and participation. By engaging various stakeholders, the Ministry hopes to foster a sense of ownership and civic responsibility among citizens an essential component for successful national planning and resource allocation.

Throughout the sessions, participants explored innovative messaging techniques and discussed how to leverage both social media and traditional platforms to reach a wider audience. The inclusion of musicians and bloggers highlights the Ministry’s recognition of the power of creative communication in engaging the public.

As Sierra Leone prepares for this vital demographic exercise, the successful conclusion of the workshop marks a significant step in ensuring that the 2026 Population and Housing Census is not only well-publicized but also embraced by the entire nation.

The Ministry of Information and Civic Education aims to maintain momentum leading up to the census, ensuring that every citizen understands its importance and participates actively.
