Ministry of Health Driver and Mechanic Sent to Jail over Vehicle Theft

Forty-year-old Mohamed Kamara, a driver, and twenty-eight-year-old Mohamed Conteh, a mechanic, made their first appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on 23rd September 2025. The defendants are standing trial on two counts: conspiracy to commit a felony, contrary to the law, and larceny by servant, contrary to Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.According to the particulars of the offence, on Friday, 5th September 2025, at the National Republic Health Agency Emergency Operation Center in Cockril, Western Area, Freetown, the defendants conspired together with others unknown to commit the felony of larceny by servant.

Count two further states that on the same date and location, the defendants, as servants employed by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, stole a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle with registration number AXP 063. The vehicle is valued at forty thousand United States dollars, equivalent to eight hundred and sixty thousand Leones (₦860,000), and is the property of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.

After the charges were read and explained, no plea was taken from the defendants.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim S. Mansaray, requested a short adjournment to call his first witness.

The defendants were represented by W.V. Gaber Esq. and I. Dele Taylor Esq.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Jah refused bail due to the seriousness of the charges. The matter was adjourned to 29th September 2025 for further hearing.
