Ministry of defence and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) with Representatives from the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) has on 21st February 2022 held its 7th general assembly at the international conference center Bintumani, Aberdeen-Freetown.
According to the President of (OSMA) Major General Maikano Abdullahi said the purpose of the Press Conference is to updates pressmen on how the Organization of Sports African operates. He said the Organization is an African Continental Association and it is the Africa branch of Military in the world and the Organization is to uphold the International Military Council in the World and they shared similar objective which is Friendship through Sports; and the fundamental principles of OSMA is to promote sporting activities and Physical Education through members armed forces in their respective Countries in the view of sponsoring Cultural peace, Economic development, and Africa integrations.
He eluded that the headquarters of (OSMA) is in Cameroon Yaoundé and it is in agreement with the government of Cameroon to have signed the agreement. According to him, he said the Organization was created in March 1994 in Guinea Conakry. It has four organograms in which it operates ranging from General Assembly, Secretariat, Executive Committee, and the Liaison Offices across members states.
Major General Abdullahi said their first military games was held in Ivory Coast in 2001, and the second was held in Mail in 2004, and the third held in Cameroon and their Sporting activities have been held within its member’s Countries in which they operates with (40) members within the Africa Continent.
He affirmed that Sierra Leone has bid to host the next Organization Africa Sports games and that has been approved by President Julius Maada Bio which will be held next year or the following year. He added that in hosting their games members’ countries only need to help them with playing venue with proper security measured and members countries will have to responsible for their feeding, accommodation, and Air ticketing.
He confirmed that the essence of hosting its Sporting activities is to help promote peace within its member countries and to also build a solid branch in the African continent.
He concluded that the African countries competing in OSMA games will have to qualify for the World Championship, which was held in China last year to help maintain solid peace between China and South Korea.
