Since electricity is still a major concern in many parts of the country the Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanja Sesay, together with a high-powered delegation from the Ministry of Energy officially turned on the Mini—Grid Solar Light Facility in Madina Town, Tonko Limba Chiefdom, Kambia District, Northwestern Sierra Leone.
The Minister was accompanied by Sons of the soil of Madina, Tonko Limba Chiefdom— Hon. Manso A. Dumbuya, Mohammed kamara, the Resident Minister Northwest and the Ambassador to Guinea, Ambassador Alimamy Hassan Bangura.
Tonko Limba chiefdom has for ages been denied the right to electricity, which is one of the key powers of economic growth and prosperity. Access to electricity particularly in rural settlements in the past remained a distant dream for majority of the citizenry in Kambia district and other places across the country.
Madina Tonko Limba has joined 55 Chiefdoms and Headquarter Towns to be electrified through the Mini—Grid Solar System.
Kambia District Presently have four Chiefdom Headquarters with solar electricity namely Bamoi bana in munuthalan Chiefdom, mambolo town, kychom in samu chiefdom, and Rokupr in magbema chiefdom respectively.
Though few of the facilities remain a challenge for the utilization of community people because of the cost.
Grid solar system is a Rural Renewable Energy Project designed by Mr. Kanja Sesay which is aimed at electrifying about 98 Chiefdoms Headquarter Towns across the country.
Minister Kanja Sesay admonished the people to take ownership of the facility, nothing that it is a manifesto promise of the new direction government of President Bio to ensure the availability of efficient and relatively cheap electricity for the citizens.
The Paramount Chief, Chiefdom authorities and Chiefdom Stakeholders graced the event. The event was climaxed by thousands of indigenes who gathered at Madina Court Barry to witness the history making event shouted joyfully “Light Don Cam”
The youth Chairman Tonko Limba chiefdom Emmanuel Kamara on behalf of the youth and the people of Tonko limba thanked the minister and other personalities for bringing electricity to the people of Tonko limba Chiefdom, he ended by calling on all youths to take good care of the facilities now and when the facility shall have completed.
