Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Mrs. Nabeela Tunis, launched the “Tourism for All” campaign on April 19th, 2024, at the Galliness Venue in Bo, Sierra Leone. The initiative aims to align with President Julius Maada Bio’s Big Five Game Changers, focusing on reforming public sector management and leveraging the country’s blue economy, particularly the tourism industry.
Mrs. Tunis highlighted the campaign’s goal of promoting local tourism, granting Sierra Leoneans access to domestic tourist destinations. The emphasis lies in fostering sustainable growth by raising awareness among locals. She underscored the significance of hospitality and cultural diversity, recognizing the pivotal role of the people in attracting international tourists and encouraging others to visit Sierra Leone.
In her address, Mrs. Tunis stressed the importance of injecting innovation into the tourism sector, providing opportunities for local entrepreneurs to introduce fresh ideas and enhance Sierra Leone’s appeal as a tourist destination. She also acknowledged ongoing efforts by the Ministry and stakeholders to enhance service quality within the sector.
Furthermore, Mrs. Tunis called for increased collaboration among local authorities to preserve Sierra Leone’s heritage, particularly as the nation celebrates the Month of Gateway to Freedom and Liberation. She praised the ministry’s strategic vision and leadership in achieving its objectives and targets.
The “Tourism for All” campaign signals a concerted effort by the Sierra Leonean government to revitalize the tourism sector, leveraging its natural and cultural assets while ensuring the participation and benefit of the local population.
