The Honourable Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Mr. Julius Daniel Mattai, is currently representing Sierra Leone at the 28th edition of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in Russia. The high-profile forum, held from June 18 to June 21, 2025, convenes world leaders, entrepreneurs, and industry experts to address key global economic issues and foster international partnerships.
Minister Mattai is leading a high-level delegation comprising the Director-General of the National Minerals Agency (NMA), Mr. Hadji Dabo, and other senior officials from both the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources and the NMA. Their participation underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and enhancing its mining sector, which plays a crucial role in the nation’s economic development.
Upon their arrival in St. Petersburg, the delegation was received by His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo and members of the Sierra Leonean diplomatic mission. The Ambassador and his team provided full diplomatic and logistical support to ensure the delegation’s effective participation in the forum.
Throughout SPIEF 2025, Minister Mattai is scheduled to deliver keynote addresses, participate in panel discussions, and engage in strategic meetings* with international mining industry leaders and potential investors. These engagements are aimed at strengthening economic ties, promoting Sierra Leone’s rich mineral potential, and establishing new partnerships for sustainable mining ventures.
Minister Mattai’s presence at SPIEF further reinforces the Sierra Leonean government’s proactive efforts to create a favorable investment climate, enhance transparency in the mining sector, and align the country’s mineral development with international standards.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is one of the world’s most influential platforms for global economic dialogue, and Sierra Leone’s representation signifies a major step forward in positioning the country as a competitive destination for mining investment and economic collaboration.
