A delegation from the Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU), led by Vice Chancellor and Principal Professor Philip John Kanu, presented a thank-you card to the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Austin Demby, on Friday, 7th March 2025.
The card was in appreciation of the Ministry’s recent free medical outreach to the university’s Goderich Campus, which took place in February 2025 and benefitted staff, students, and the local Goderich community.
Professor Kanu explained that the thank-you card was designed and produced by the university to highlight the positive impact of the medical outreach, particularly in promoting the health and well-being of staff and students. He expressed the university’s deep gratitude for the Ministry’s support.
Additionally, Professor Kanu informed Dr. Demby that the university operates a clinic at the Goderich campus, which is supported by the Ministry of Health and the Office of the First Lady. The clinic has received essential supplies, including hospital beds, further strengthening the healthcare services available to students and staff. He also noted that the Ministry’s environment, including its facilities and toilets, is kept clean and well-maintained.
In response, Dr. Demby emphasised that the medical outreach was made possible through strong collaboration between the Ministry and its international partners. He affirmed that students are the future of Sierra Leone and that the outreach focused on their well-being, as well as the health of the surrounding community. Dr. Demby expressed that the thank-you visit would inspire the Ministry to continue its efforts to serve the public.
He further shared that the Ministry is undergoing a process of rebranding, with improvements such as the installation of energy-efficient LED lights in offices, and the painting of office spaces in white and blue. Despite the challenges, Dr. Demby assured the delegation that the Ministry is doing its best with the resources available, acknowledging that while the university is on the “producing end,” the Ministry is on the “receiving end.”
The presentation of the thank-you card by Professor Kanu to Dr. Demby marked the highlight of the visit.
