Atical Foyoh, one of Sierra Leone’s talented musicians, whose singing style can be described as a social commentator, has released a brand new single titled ‘Mess Mess.’
The song which came out on Tuesday 1st February 2022 via various social media and music platforms, features one of the most controversial Hip Pop rappers in Sierra Leone King Boss aka LAJ.
The song ‘Mess Mess ‘is a social commentary song that touched on the current socio-political state of affairs in the country, ranging from “bad governance and corruption to injustice” amongst others.
The One Vision Entertainment artiste, Atical Foyoh in the lyrics, blames the SLPP led government for orchestrating “bad leadership and other societal ills which he described as “Mess Mess,” a krio word for something that is messy, immoral or unethical. Foyoh in the song, narrated about the suffering of citizens in the country, and emphasized on the state of despair and high cost of living.
A social commentary is the act of using rhetorical means to provide commentary on issues in a society. This is often done with the idea of implementing or promoting change by informing the general populace about a given problem and appealing to people’s sense of justice. Social commentary can be practiced through all forms of communication, from printed form, music, conversations to computerized communication.
‘Mess Mess’ lyrics compare the country’s health facility to its leaders, who it says are all “a total mess.” He said that people are dying, and others are treated with disrespect and other inhumane ways. He notes in the song that only unpatriotic Sierra Leoneans will support these current happenings. The song described Sierra Leone as a nation too blessed to experience the current state of suffering.
In an interview, Foyoh said his decision to write the song was to advocate for the masses. “I decided to do this song as an artiste to stand up and speak the minds of majority of Sierra Leoneans who are not happy with the way and manner things are going in the country,” he noted.
He said he hopes the song will serve as “a wake-up call for the leaders of the nation.” He stated that he featured King Boss LAJ because he is the most suitable collaborator for such songs.
In his verse, King Boss LAJ throws shots at the free quality education scheme that was introduced by President Julius Maada Bio. He sang about his frequent arrests and detention in prison amongst other controversies.
Mess Mess single was produced by a young talented music producer named Skiv Daz, who also produced one of Foyoh’s hit songs titled ‘Nasty’
Atical Foyoh whose real name is Emmanuel Rogers is also an actor who came into the limelight after he released his hit single titled ‘Isha’ featuring Shady Baby.
