Medical Doctor testifies on alleged assault on police

The medical doctor attached to  Makeni Regional hospital Abdul  Sesay has said Assistant Inspector General of Police Gabriel Tommy went and complained about pelvic and bilateral side pain as a result of being hit by a vehicle.

Complainant Gabriel Tommy is with Hon. Mohamed Bangura and Yeabom Sesay prior to the alleged incident that took place at Mathora Village.

Led in his testimony by state counsel Y. I Sesay, doctor  Sesay  said he is responsible for supervising, receive patient from police station for assessment and treatment and has been occupying that office for two years.

He said on the 12th of June 2022, he was at the hospital premises, and recalled examined and treated one Gabriel Tommy.

The witness  explained that Gabriel Tommy was presented to his office with complaint of pelvic pain, bilateral side pain which he alleged he sustained whiles on duty.

He said on hearing the complaint, examination, diagnosis and treatment are made.

Looking at a document presented to him by state counsel Yusif Isaac Sesay, the doctor confirmed it to be the medical report signed and stamped dated 12th of June 20222.

The stated produced and tendered the endorsed medical reported dated 12th June 2022, and it was marked as exhibit N.

Perusing exhibit N with instructions of state counsel YI Sesay, the doctor said under patient complaint, complainant complained about plevic pain. He said when examined the patient was not under stressed, no wound , no laceration was seen, no fracture was noted when examining  the pelvic.

In cross examination  by defence counsel for the first accused Lansana Dumbuya Esq,  he  said he cannot recalled complainant wearing a cervical brace when he approached him at the hospital. He said an individual can placed under cervical brace when he or she has got an accident relating to that in order to prevent re-occurrence.

The doctor was in an instance where someone is suffering from cervical injury he or she don’t normally feel sensation down on the waist or leg.

” My lord I don’t know AIG Gabriel Tommy personally”, the witness said in cross examination.

In another question put to him by defence counsel, the medico said myalgia is muscular pain.

Doctor Sesay said he referred Complainant for x-ray but he did not come back with the result.

At the conclusion of cross examination,  state counsel YI Sesay based on the evidence led so far, the above will be the case for the Prosecution.

Defense counsel for first accused Lansana Dumbuya said he will be making a no case submission on behalf of his client. His intention was adopted by counsel for the second accused Brima Koroma .

Having listening to both sides magistrate Mark Ngagba adjourned the matter to the 8th of November 2022.
