Mason Remanded for Alleged Theft at Lumley Mall

Eighteen-year-old Gibrilla Sowie, a mason, made his first appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown on one count of store breaking and larceny, contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, on 28th November 2025, at Lumley Mall in the Western Area of Freetown, the accused allegedly broke into the said mall and stole one can of paint, electric cables, and other assorted items valued at ten thousand and fifty Leones (Le 10,050), property of Lumley Mall.

When the charge was read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken.

The prosecutor, Inspector Mabel M. Tarawally, informed the court that the relevant documents had been served on the accused, including his voluntary caution statement and charge statement, in line with the new Criminal Procedure Act of 2024.

The defendant was not legally represented.

Magistrate Jah refused bail and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 17th December 2025.
