In a bid to support the Government of Sierra Leone’s Human Capital Development agenda through community development initiatives, Marampa Mines Limited (MML) has commissioned the newly constructed Kulafai Rashideen Islamic Primary School, valued at $175,000, in Maforki Village, Marampa Chiefdom. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, 9th December 2025, marking a significant milestone for the community.
Angula Kalili, Managing Director of MML, emphasized that the company’s core values centre on shaping development, prioritizing safety, and ensuring visible progress especially for the younger generation. He recalled MML’s earlier commitment to relocate the school to a more conducive and safer learning environment, a promise now fulfilled.
Kalili highlighted that the new school comprises two buildings with six classrooms, equipped with toilet facilities to promote hygiene among pupils. The compound also features a hand-pumped water well, a spacious recreation field, and a fully fenced perimeter to improve safety and access control. He noted that MML, with support from donor partners, also provided learning materials to enhance effective teaching and learning.
He expressed hope that these resources will inspire pupils, boost their confidence, and nurture their potential. Kalili further recognized the efforts of the local contractor and the MML project team for their commitment to completing the project.
“Education is the foundation of every thriving society. When we support schools, we support the next generation of leaders, teachers, engineers, geologists, doctors, entrepreneurs, and innovators,” he stated. He added that the investment reflects the vision of the MML Chairman and aligns strongly with the government’s Human Capital Development agenda.
Koblo Queen II, Paramount Chief of Marampa Chiefdom commended MML for aligning its operations with the national development strategy. He also appreciated President Bio’s leadership for ensuring that mining host communities benefit from the 1% community development fund included in recent mining concession agreements.
“The success of this community and the nation depend on the classroom,” he noted. The Paramount Chief added that over ten schools within the chiefdom have recently received teacher pin codes, a development he said would strengthen the education system.
Ambassador Alhaji Umar Bond Wurie, Resident Minister North-West also thanked MML for providing a conducive learning environment for the children of Maforki Village. He encouraged community members to support MML and maintain a positive working relationship with the company.
Anthony Mansaray, MML Project Manager explained that the decision to relocate the school originally less than 50 meters from unsafe conditions was motivated by the need to accommodate over 200 pupils from surrounding communities. The new site, situated 275 meters from the old location, was donated by the Kamara family, who offered three hectares of land for the project.
Construction began in April 2025 and includes two classroom blocks, a Head Teacher’s office, a store, a six-room toilet block (three for girls and three for boys), two handpump water wells, an assembly stage, a football field, and a secure fence around the premises.
Ibrahim Satti Kamara, Director of Communications and Community Affairs at the National Minerals Agency, reiterated that education remains a cornerstone of President Bio’s Human Capital Development agenda. He urged parents and community members to take full advantage of the educational opportunities provided.
David Fannah Mansaray, representing the Kulafai Rasideen Islamic Mission, expressed gratitude to MML and the landowners for supporting education in Maforki Village and the Marampa Chiefdom at large.
