Magistrate Sao Mamakoh Betty Kallon of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 3 has sentenced Thomas Sesay to six months’ imprisonment at the Male Correctional Centre after he pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny.
The convict was arraigned on one count of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the police charge sheet, it was alleged that on Thursday, 22nd January 2026, at 9C Olorshoroh, Murray Town, the accused stole one security light valued at One Thousand Leones (Le 1,000), the property of the complainant, Zainab Sesay.
Police further alleged that the accused unlawfully removed the security light without the consent of the owner, thereby depriving the complainant of her lawful property.
During the hearing, the charge was read and explained to the accused in a language he understood, after which he unequivocally pleaded guilty to the offence.
In delivering her judgment, Magistrate Kallon described the offence as serious, stressing that the theft of private property regardless of its monetary value remains a criminal act punishable by law. She noted that such acts contribute to insecurity within communities and must be discouraged.
The Magistrate further stated that the court would not tolerate criminal behaviour and would continue to impose appropriate custodial sentences to deter others from engaging in similar unlawful acts.
Consequently, Thomas Sesay was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment at the Male Correctional Centre.
