A Special Criminal Session at the Sefadu High Court D.O. Barracks in Koidu City, presided over by Justice Augustine K. Musa, has delivered high sentencing multiple convictions, reinforcing the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice.
Leading the convictions with the most severe ruling, Mohamed Connteh was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment after being found guilty of sexually violating an eight-year-old pupil identified to be in primary four. Before delivering his ruling, Justice Musa expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of such offenses, despite ongoing efforts by First Lady Her Excellency Fatima Jabbie Maada Bio to combat crimes against minors.
In another case, Alice Kumba Kaimondo of Biama Tankoro Chiefdom was convicted of wounding with intent, contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. The court found that on December 25, 2024, at Biama Tankoro Chiefdom, Kaimondo inflicted serious harm on the complainant, Alpha Kaimondo, causing severe bodily injury. She was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment. The prosecution was led by State Counsel Charles Foday Sesay, while A.O. Kamara represented the defense.
Additionally, Ibrahim Rogers was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment after being convicted of manslaughter in connection with an incident that occurred on January 5, 2025, in the Resettlement Area of Koidu City.
The session also resulted in the conviction of Alie Maculley for housebreaking and larceny, offenses under Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act 1916. He was sentenced to 48 months imprisonment.
In another manslaughter case, Mohamed Kanu and David Kamara pleaded guilty and were each sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. Both convicts expressed remorse and pleaded for leniency before sentencing.
The rulings handed down in this session reflect the judiciary’s commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring justice for victims of serious offenses in Kono District.
