Allen Nyaka formerly of Konoboy Saquee Street in Koidu city Kono district, is reported to have committed suicide on Tuesday 11th June ,2025.
Talking to the younger sister of the deceased Alice Nyaka, she told our correspondent that although her elder brother did not spend most of his life time with them as family members, he recently visited them at least three months ago after which he came back to spend four days with them, noting it was during the said four days he hung himself.
She said her elder brother was a miner that spent most of his time in the far Northern region of Sierra Leone.
Asking to know if there was any change in the attitude of her elder brother’s behaviour during the last four days he spent with them at the family house before he allegedly hung himself, Alice noted that although her elder brother was sleeping together with their father she never noticed any change of attitude in his behavior, as he was a very quiet person that was never addicted to drugs neither alcohol. She maintained that whilst living together she is the first person that usually wakes up very early in the morning everyday to pray and prepare food for the family before she leaves the house for where she transacts business in Koidu city.
According to her before performing the responsibilities, she used knock at the door of both her father and the deceased. She said the day before her elder brother allegedly hung himself to death, he requested for five Leones from her whilst she was on her way to where she transacts business, adding she gave him ten Leones instead of the money he requested for.
Alice Nyaka noted that upon her returned to the house on the day before the incident occurred, she found out that the food she prepared both for her father and elder brother now deceased was left untouched. The deceased remarked that his sister should not stress over the food; noting that they are okay.
Alice said the night before her elder brother hung himself to death she left him at the visiting room whilst she entered in her room to take her medicine and rest as she was feeling unwell; adding later when she came out of her room she never saw her elder in the visiting room and went to their father to know the whereabouts of her elder brother but her father denied knowing his whereabouts.
She said owing to the feedback of her father, she then went at the back of their house to check if the door was properly closed. She said it was during the time she met her brother seated very sad under the mango tree at the back of their house and told him to get inside because she wanted to close the said door in order to go to bed, but her brother remarked that let her close the back door and leave the front door open so that he will later use it to enter in their own room.
Alice noted that she did exactly what her elder brother told her to do, stating as usual the following morning when she woke up she saw the remains of her elder brother hung up on a rope at their visiting room where she cried out aloud which attracted their neighbours. She said police from the Tankoro divisional headquarters have visited the scene of crime and took photos of the remains of her elder brother and took the remains from where he was hung.
Adam Nyaka the deceased’s uncle told this medium that his nephew never lived an organized life and as a result he spent the rest of his life time off from the. Meanwhile, police at the Tankoro division have conveyed the remains to the Koidu Government Hospital mortuary for proper examination.
