The initiative of the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, to organize free summer school at the Alhadi Islamic and Benevolent Secondary schools in Makeni city, has been widely appreciated by the beneficiaries.
Mohammed Bundu Barrie, a pupil of the Alhadi Islamic Secondary School said the initiative is laudable having helped them to keep away from idleness. He encouraged his colleagues to join the classes and be attentive noting that the classes would help them, especially those that are going to take public exams.
Kadiatu S. Kamara of the UMC Secondary School, SS two expressed her gratitude to President Bio for coming up with the ongoing summer school. Hassan Abdulai, another pupil and beneficiary, applauded the President for his free and effective Summer School programme. He noted that the introduction of this sort of summer school, by no less a person than the Head of State, is a pointer to the fact that President Bio is serious about improving the educational sector.
One of the teachers, Hassan Timbo said they are there to promote Free Quality Education and in service to the nation considering the free time the kids have since they are on holiday.
Peter Conteh of Sylvanus Municipal Academy called for continuity of the President’s summer school. He said the programme should not be politicized but rather seek as a mechanism to improve the country’s education sector
Daniel Kanu said the summer school is a plus and a blessing in disguise.
The Registrar for the Makeni branch of President Bio’s self-funded summer school, Sheikh Issa Kargbo has expressed his satisfaction over the summer school, pointing out that the teachers are well experienced and equipped with the know-how to make pupils pass their exams easily.
He informed this medium that the dedicated teachers were enlisted devoid of favoritism or sentiments applied in taking the teachers amounting to sixty – six to cover the two schools.
They said the turnout has been great commending those in the science stream as being very cooperative. He encouraged parents to send their kids to benefit from summer school.
President Bio’s Summer School was launched on 5th August 2022 and it’s expected to run for four weeks. The teachers are paid one million Leones (old currency) each.
