Francis Zappa Koroma head coach of Leone Stars Home Base Team has on the 1st August,2022 dropped Mahmoud Fornah from the team squad ahead of their crunch tie against Mali in CHAN Qualifiers.
Coach Koroma said the reasons for his dropped came, as a result, he was seen playing for a community Football league match for Seaside Community in which all players have been warned not to play any Community football as they are having a crunch tie against a strong opponent Mail in the final spot of CHAN Tournament in Algeria.
Sierra Leone national home side defeated the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde in the first leg by (2-0) goal to nil at the Marrakech Stadium in Morocco and lost the return leg by (2-1) two goals and progress to the next by (3-2) aggregate to book a final phase of the Qualifiers.
Mahmoud Fornah is a pivotal player in Francis Zappa Koroma’s squad from the start of the campaign and scored some crucial goals in the Friendlies matches, with this set back of his dropped from the squad will be a huge blow to the team as they have only few weeks ahead of the clash with Mali later this month.
Francis Zappa Koroma affirmed that the withdrawal of Mahmoud Fornah is to maintain discipline within the team and to get his authority over to the players and that they need to be disciplined when they are on international assignments, he noted that this is not the first time players have been putting up the act of undisciplined among players.
Sierra Leone’s Home base will host their Malian counterparts on 28th August 2022 in the first leg and will go away in September to play the returned leg match; the winner of the highest aggregate will qualify for finals in Algeria.
