Residents in Mabang community Ribbi chiefdom Moyamba district are calling on the government to provide a safe crossing ferry in their chiefdom.
The Mabang road is the shortest road leading to the capital Freetown when coming from Moyamba or some parts of the provinces in the southern region of Sierra Leone.
Many business owners, drivers and other works of life where using the Mabang bridge enroute to Freetown to buy their goods and return without wasting time.
Since the Mabang bridge collapsed over three years ago, the ferries that are now available as a means of transport are not safe.
For that reason, many people don’t risk their lives in using ramshackle ferries to crossing the river but prefer using the highway to access Freetown.
According to Alpha Ben Mansaray when talking to a-z, he disclosed that even the Ferries at the crossing point are a risk and has destroyed lives and properties in previous years and many are afraid to use it in its present state.
Some resident told a-z press that they foresee delay in the construction of the bridge, as community members are facing many risks that may pose threat to their lives.
Mabang bridge was destroyed by MSF road Construction Company when passing with their heavy equipment during the regime of the All People Congress (APC).
The said bridge contract was handed over to CSE later by the ruling SLPP government as MSF the previous contractor failed to do its work.
Residents are calling on CSE to speedily construct the Mabang bridge as that will ease the difficulties in their movement and promote their economical values in the chiefdom and the district as a whole.
