Reports from Koindadugu District states that the Local District Council bye-elections in the aforesaid district have ended in a political turmoil.
The bye elections which took place on October 2nd this year was as a result of the demise of the Koinadugu district Council Chairman Alex Sourie and the Councillor of Ward 155 in Koinadugu District.
Reports had it that the political conflict in the district did not come as surprise as prior to the said Local Council elections, the contesting political parties were at each other’s throats in order to gain the vacant positions.
The report from our Koinadugu district correspondent further maintained that, some people in the district have described the manner which the said electioneering process was conducted as unfair and illegal thereby blaming some members of the SLPP to have allegedly imported thugs from Makeni to disrupt the electioneering process by destroying ballot boxes and papers. Our correspondent pointed out that the aforementioned materials were not only destroyed and burnt down to ash but a Councillor and Police officer were also assaulted.
Meanwhile as members of the Koinadugu District security Emergency Committee are said to have pacified the reported political conflict in the district, NEC officials in charge of the said electioneering process were expected to be compiling the various valid boxes and papers in order to publish the winners of the Local Council bye- elections in Koinadugu district whilst police in the district are frantically investigating circumstances surrounding the reported political turmoil as a result of the just conducted Local Council bye elections.
