Reports from Koindadugu District states that the Local District Council bye-elections in the aforesaid district have ended in a political turmoil.

The bye elections which took place on October 2nd this year was as a result of the demise of the Koinadugu district Council Chairman Alex Sourie and the Councillor of Ward 155 in Koinadugu District.

Reports had it that the political conflict in the district did not come as surprise as prior to the said Local Council elections, the contesting political parties were at each other’s throats  in order to gain the  vacant  positions.

The report from our Koinadugu district correspondent  further maintained  that, some people in the district have described the manner  which the said electioneering process was conducted  as unfair  and illegal thereby blaming some  members of the  SLPP to have allegedly imported thugs from Makeni to disrupt  the electioneering process by destroying  ballot boxes and papers. Our correspondent pointed out that the aforementioned materials were not only destroyed and burnt down to ash but a Councillor and Police officer were also assaulted.

Meanwhile as members of the Koinadugu District security Emergency  Committee  are said to have pacified the reported political conflict in the district, NEC officials in charge  of the said electioneering process were expected to be  compiling  the various valid boxes and papers in order to publish the winners of the Local Council bye- elections in Koinadugu district whilst police in the district are frantically  investigating  circumstances  surrounding the reported  political turmoil as a result of the  just conducted Local Council  bye elections.
