The Minister of Technical and Higher Prof. Alpha Tejan Wurie has also disclosed at the press briefing plans to reopen in October 2021 the Limkokwing University. He also spoke on the issue of students noting that the issue has been resolved and students are to resume the academic year. He spoke on the disbursement of 51 billion made by the Ministry of Finance in respect of the leave allowances of teachers and further elaborated on the presidential awards, commemoration of World Teachers Day in October and the student loan scheme that is to commence in October.
The Minister used the briefing session to update the press about a grant in aid scheme, leave allowance for teachers and the commemoration of world teachers’ day on the 5th of October, the return of Limkokwing students to continue their courses and the end of the Abridged Academic Calendar.
The Minister spoke on the Abridged Academic Calendar of higher and tertiary educational institutions. He said the idea of this decision was to have one academic Calendar and to reduce the curb of students strike actions and other gang related crimes amongst students.
A total of 6,125 students applied for grants and the government has been able to support 2,700 with 520 female benefitting from the STEM Program.
