Liberian National Pleads Guilty to Cocaine-Related Charges, Sentencing Adjourned

Justice Kalila Diana Kamara of High Court No. 2, Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown, has adjourned the sentencing of Liberian national Hawa Dukuly, who pleaded guilty to four charges related to cocaine offenses.

The charges against Dukuly include: Collecting a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 7(b) of the National Drug Control Act 2008, Act No. 10 of 2008. Transporting a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 7(b) of the same Act. Dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 7(c) of the Act. Possession of a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 8(a) of the Act.

According to the particulars of the offense, on Wednesday, 11th June 2025, at Freetown International Airport, Lungi, in the Port Loko Judicial District of the Northern Province, Dukuly collected, transported, and dealt in prohibited drugs without lawful authority. She was also found in possession of six small, folded brown envelopes, each containing cocaine.

When the charges were read and explained to her in court, Dukuly pleaded guilty to all counts.

Justice Kamara refused bail and remanded Dukuly to the Female Correctional Facility in Freetown. The matter has been adjourned to 4th December 2025 for sentencing and recording of the court proceedings.
