Liberia Health Minister Commends Sierra Leone’s Healthcare System

The Minister of Health of the Republic of Liberia Dr. Louise Kpoto has commended Sierra Leone’s healthcare system during her visit along with a thirty-man delegation to exchange knowledge and share innovative ideas on the improvement of healthcare delivery for the two sister countries.

The visitation was held on Thursday 5th December December 2024 at the Youyi building, Freetown.

In her remark, Dr. Louise Kpoto said Sierra Leone’s efforts in the decrease of maternal mortality was a remarkable achievement for the country.  Adding that the visit aimed to learned from the country’s journey towards achieving the projected data for maternal death and mental health.

She admitted that their visit was to share ideas and exchange knowledge in order to improve quality healthcare system. “Sierra Leone is doing great work which other countries do not know about,” she said.

Dr. Kpoto mentioned that their visit to Sierra Leone was to Learn the best practices. She thanked the Government of Sierra Leone and the Ministry of Health for acknowledging their visitation and diversity.

Dr. Austin Demby, Minister of Health for Sierra Leone said the country is looking forward to several exchange especially in reproductive healthcare and mental health. He noted that in building the Africa for all, health should be at the centre and as a platform for national development.

Dr. Demby added that providing the human capital, food sufficiency as well as the necessary infrastructure, that country would thrive to a brighter path, which Sierra Leone is not an exception.

He emphasized that harnessing collaboration and network would create more opportunities to improving quality health care delivery. Dr. Demby stated that Sierra Leone would continue to support other sister countries to combat any health emergency. “Our vision is Accompaniment, Alignment, Acceleration and Accountability,” Dr. Demby said.

Dr. Sartie Kanneh, Chief Medical Officer, Ministry of Health said Sierra Leone’s efforts to affordable and quality health care system was marked by prioritizing some of the essentials for the past years. He underscored that the country has over the years focused on human resource and supply chain.

Dr. Kanneh stated that for the first time Sierra Leone has begun training homegrown medical experts particularly in clinical care. He added that the ministry had lifted primary healthcare with health security as part of the formulas to reach the universal health coverage.
