Alie Hijazi has said let us all work together regardless of who you support during the election, he made the statement after he has been elected as President of the Sierra Leone Basketball Federation (SLBF), uncontested for the association’s top seat, securing all 67 votes casted.
He went further to say `we all have to work together towards the development of basketball in the country.` “We can still do things together to try to make basketball go forward. I am very honored, humbled and also excited for this position. I was a basketball player, basketball coach, Team owner, Chairman and now the Federation president. I am going to do a lot of work and less talk because I want basketball to play more and more like always,” he stated.
The election was peaceful, free and fair and conducted by Haroun Korjie, the Director of Sports from the Ministry of Sports, the Director of Participation and Sustainable Sports at the National Sports Authority, Steven Keifala, NSA’s Sports Coordinator Lambert Sesay and NOC’s Alie G. Koroma.
Alie Hejazi who replaces Joseph Nyande and 10 other members were ushered into various positions with the mandate to serve a term of four years.
Ismail Bangura won the position of Secretary General, after securing 48 votes, beating David Ngaujah who pulled 19 votes.
Abu Mohamed Mansaray emerged as Vice President, Kabineh Kobba as Assistant Secretary General, Cyril Morgan as Treasurer, Umaru Kargbo as Organizing Secretary, Ibrahim S. Jah as Assistance Organizing Secretary, John Kallon as Internal Auditor, Aaron Conteh as Legal Adviser, Melvin King as PRO1 and Mohamed Fofanah as PRO 2.
The Elective Congress was held on Saturday November 25th 2023, at the Henry Moore Auditorium, OlympAfrica, Goderich in Freetown.
