LEONE STARS TO PLAY FOUR FRIENDLIES AHEAD OF AFCON TOURNAMENT

Sierra Leone Senior National football team Leone Stars assistant coach 1 Amidu Karim said the technical team is hopeful to play six Friendly matches before the Africa Cup of Nations to be host in Cameroon Yaoundé in January 2022.

According to Amidu Karim as a technical team they are looking to play those Friendly matches on the way, because the preparations to AFCON has to be in good footing considering the intensity of the tournament.

He added that already they have played two matches where they won one, drew one and they are looking forward to get four more Friendly matches before the AFCON tournament.

Mr. Karim said looking at the group where Sierra Leone is drawn with the Current Champions Algeria, Ivory Coast, and Equatorial Guinea that tells we need good preparations before the tournament.

He affirmed that they are looking forward to those friendly matches and to possibly take a look at the weather in Cameroon, we want to play the likes Ghana, Guinea to test the player’s fitness and the weather conditions in those Countries.

He added that we are in constantly in touch with the foreign base players who are playing their professional football outside the Country and we are likely going to include some new faces in some of our Friendly matches to know who can be included in the squad.

” We had a good discussion with the foreign base players after we qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations, we make it know to them each and every player need to get regular playing time in his club if not that players is not guaranteed a place  in the final squad for the AFCON,” Coach Karim noted.

He furthered that as a technical team they want to give chance to each and every player who is yet to wear the Green, White and Blue and that is why they need the Friendly matches.

 He noted for players without a club they need to get a club in three months before the AFCON if not that player will not make the final squad.

On his resignation from FC Kallon he said;

“I think people need to understand I spent eleven years in the club, I have given my best to the development of young players and for the club to be where it is today…I think its high time to answer to the national assignment,” said Amidu Karim.
