Leone Stars Team A defeated Team B 2-0 last weekend at the Kenema Town field.
Kassim Turay puts team A ahead in the first half before Masalakie Bangura seals the win to secure the weekly purse of Le 20,000,000 for both the champions and runner-up, donated by Leone Stars’ Team Manager Babadi Kamara.
Speaking to this medium, TM Babadi said he was impressed with both sides’ performance. Asked why the weekly purse he replied: “The encounter is to motivate the young players because the Nations Cup tournament is four months away”.
“After Leone Stars victory over Benin, nobody is asking or trying to know how the team’s preparation is going, and I am glad you guys are around to cover today’s match. We want to get it right ahead of next year’s tournament in Cameroon”, he continued.
“The team will travel back to Freetown for two days and then head to Makeni for another week or two to keep the home based fitter. We are expecting friendly matches in the coming FIFA calendar dates and to get better results, we’ve to get it right always”, he explained.
“We are saving huge funds from camping these boys in a hotel, because the Bo Rangers club house is available at free cost and the gym department will help the players to get their regular fitness before training or after training sessions”, TM Babadi added.
He however called on Sierra Leoneans to rally behind the boys ahead of Cameroon 2022.
Leone Stars’ Head Coach John Keister applauded Babadi Kamara for his initiative in hosting the ‘weekly purse match’, adding that every single player wants to give his best every Friday.
When asked about Musa Noah Kamara, Keister said: “You guys should begin to condemn the wrong doings of these players. Musa has been away since we arrived in Bo. I don’t think he’s important any more, and I don’t think we need him going forward”.
“We want players who are committed to take us to the next level. This Musa Tombo saga has been laid to rest and there are other better players out there who want the same opportunity. No players is stagnant in the team; if you don’t perform expect we give chance to other players”, he ended.
