Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG) has disbursed a total of 300,000 New Leones in crop compensation to three communities in the Magbeni Section of Bakeh Loko Chiefdom, Port Loko District. The beneficiary communities Mapatheh, Makalay, and Rosint each received 100,000 New Leones to support farmers affected by the company’s operations.
Alhaji Mohamed Turay, LRMG’s Community and Security Manager, announced the initiative, emphasizing the company’s commitment to peaceful coexistence with the local population. He stated that the compensation is part of LRMG’s ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of its activities on agriculture and to demonstrate responsible corporate behaviour.
“This financial support is meant to help farmers recover from crop losses, sustain their livelihoods, and continue contributing to the local economy,” Turay said. He underscored the importance of maintaining open dialogue with the communities, assuring residents that their concerns are being heard and addressed. “This initiative is a step toward fostering goodwill and preserving positive relations with the people who live and farm in these areas,” he added.
The acting Regent Chief, P.C. Foday S.K. Kanu, expressed his appreciation for the compensation, noting that it arrived at a crucial time. He commended LRMG for setting an example of corporate responsibility, adding that the gesture reinforces the need to balance industrial development with the well-being of local communities.
“This initiative not only addresses immediate financial challenges but also sets a strong precedent for future collaboration between companies and local stakeholders,” Chief Kanu stated.
Farmers from all three communities welcomed the support, expressing gratitude for the assistance. Many said the compensation alleviates financial strain and provides hope for further partnerships that could enhance agricultural productivity and long-term economic stability.
In conclusion, the compensation initiative by LRMG marks a significant effort to support affected communities while promoting sustainable and inclusive development in the region.
