Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG) has implemented a Crop Compensation Program to support communities within its operational areas. Following standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Government, LRMG has provided compensation totaling over 500 million old leones (equivalent to 500,000 new leones) to farmers across the three concession chiefdoms: Dansogoia (Bumbuna), Simiria (Mabonto), and Sambaia (Bendugu).
This initiative aims to mitigate the impact of mining operations on local farmers by ensuring they can sustain their livelihoods while benefiting from the economic opportunities provided by the mining sector.
The compensation extends beyond financial relief, enabling farmers to reinvest in their agricultural practices. Many plan to use the funds to purchase seeds, fertilizers, and farming equipment that were previously unaffordable. As a result, the local economy is experiencing renewed hope and optimism.
Farmers in these communities have expressed profound gratitude to LRMG for the timely support, which has helped address losses incurred due to unforeseen circumstances.
In response to the community’s appreciation, the LRMG team reaffirmed their commitment to supporting local farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
The disbursement was overseen by LRMG’s Community and Security Manager, Mr. Alusine Kamathor Sesay, in collaboration with the HSE Manager, Mr. Mahmoud Jah, Superintendent Augustine Nato Koroma, Mr. Hamidu Kamara from the Finance Department, Biodiversity Officer Saio Kamara, CLO Davison Sorie Kargbo, and the PR and Media Unit.
