Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No.2 yesterday 7th July, 2022 sentence Lebanese National Rahhia Sulayman to 3 years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty of the offence of obtaining money by false pretenses.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused on the 14th October 2021 at No.73 Wilkinson Road in Freetown obtained the sum of $4,240 (four thousand two hundred forty dollars) from one Hussein Abess by falsely pretending that he has a vehicle parts for sale, knowing same to be false.
The charges was read and explained to the accused person and he pleaded not guilty.
In making plea mitigation, Defense Counsel JT Mansaray said his client did not waste the Court`s time, adding that he has no criminal intent to commit such crime, and according to him, his client is a business man who deals in spare parts.
Lawyer Mansaray therefore pleaded with the Bench to pass a minimal sentence to his client.
Having heard the plea mitigation, Magistrate Ngegba sentenced the convict to 3 years imprisonment or pay the said amount he defrauded the accused.
