Responding to allegations questioning his leadership capabilities, leader of the main opposition party Dr. Samura MW Kamara has on Saturday 30th September 2023 in a press statement let out that leadership is showcased through actions and collective responsibility
It could be recalled that the main opposition party All People’s Congress (APC) had accepted to go on a dialogue with the Government of Sierra Leone in order to resolve the political impasse threatening the peace and development of the country. That intervention however sparked diverse reactions to supporters of the political party resulting to questioning their leader’s leadership prowess.
“Leadership is a collective responsibility, meaning that everyone who takes up leadership positions within an institution has mandate to speak out and defend the institution individually and collectively rather than stay painfully quiet and withdrawn at all times to make you look good in the eyes of the public,” APC Leader, Samura Kamara revealed.
The party leader went on expressing that the persistent quietness and withdrawing at all times had the proclivity of provoking unbearable and destabilizing criticisms at others who are bold enough to speak out or act with a view to advancing the interests of the institution.
On the ongoing negotiation between the APC party and the Government of Sierra Leone, Samura Kamara assured that any discussions that had taken place between the two political leaders and/or close associates were aimed at solving the impasse, ensuring stability, respecting and promoting the will and interests of the people, and securing prosperity for Sierra Leone. “These discussions are not abandonment but a demonstration of tolerant and participatory leadership in trying times,” he added.
Samura Kamara however displeased with certain personal attacks directed to him and by extension to his mother, as he admonished that politics should focus on issues and policies but not personal vendettas. “The unfortunate comments aimed at the mother of Dr Samura Kamara are not deserving of a response, but we do urge for a more respectful discourse,” he stated.
APC Samura Kamara intimated that silence should not be misconstrued as inaction or ignorance. He assured that all concerns would be seriously taken into consideration would equally consult and deliberate on the best and peaceful way forward. “We appreciate the active engagement and passion that everyone has shown, and we take your concerns seriously,” Kamara assured
To further digress on more related concerns, Samura Kamara had decided to engage with members of the party and other concern citizens through an inter-party dialogue. “Dr. Kamara has considered it the right moment to address the nation, and this will be via a press conference to be held at 12 pm GMT on Tuesday, 3rd October 2023, at the APC party HQ, Brookfields,” he noted.
