In complementing the government’s commitment to enhancing quality education, Lead Effective Action for Development (LEAD) Sierra Leone on Friday, January 17 – Sunday, January 19 organised a three-day training on the British Parliamentary Debate for pupils in Makeni.

The training, which was a blend of both theoretical and practical sessions, targeted over twenty beneficiaries including teachers and researchers ahead of the organisation’s Inter-Secondary School Debate competition scheduled for Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Ernest Bai Koroma University Auditorium.

According to the Managing Director, Musa Kondeh, the training aims to instil public speaking in pupils, sharpen their critical thinking and logical reasoning, enhance their research and presentation skills, as well as foster collaboration among the schools.

Kandeh added that the event is part of LEAD Sierra Leone’s activities to commemorate this year’s International Day of Education, adding that attractive prizes will be awarded to the three best schools and outstanding debaters.

Ejatu M.S Kanu, a pupil at Saint Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, expressed gratitude for the training, saying, “On behalf of everyone here, l want to say thank LEAD Sierra Leone for this training. At least, we have known what British Parliamentary Debate is and have learnt its format.”

She added that the training had equipped her enough to take confidently participate in the forthcoming Inter-Secondary School Debate competition.
