Abdul Davies a business man made another appearance before Magistrate Peter Gogra of Pademba road court No.6 in Freetown on a count charge to wit Larceny and Embezzlement by Servant contrary to section 17 (1) (b) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence the defendant Saidu Kamara on a date between 3rd December 2020 to 6th January 2021 in the Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone Embezzled the sum of (Le 75,000,000) seventy five million Leones.
These are monies collected from Lunsar to be deposited in the business bank account of the complainant in Freetown, herein with intent to permanently deprive the Complainant of the said Money.
Led in evidence by A.A Bangura Esq, prosecution witness number one Abdul Davies a business man said he knows the defendant in this matter.
When he was the Deputy supervisor in his business he recalled sometimes in December 3rd 2020 to the 6th January 2021 something transpired between himself and the defendant, the witness said the defendant seek medical treatment.
He instructed that all payments be made to the defendant.
The defendant was supposed to deposit the payments into a certain Bank account.
The witness said payments were made to the defendant.
It is a Mercury business; the witness said he returned on the 24th December 2020.
He called on the defendant and requested for all the receipts deposited into the bank.
He also asked the defendant to come with the daily sales report.
In his testimony he realized that there was shortage and he informed the defendant that the monies are missing.
The defendant told him that there are people that owe him money, he concluded.
The charges were read and explained to the accused person and he pleaded not guilty.
The accused person was unrepresented.
However, Magistrate Gogra granted the accused person bail in the sum of one hundred million Leones with two sureties in like sum sureties to be resident in the western area.
Sureties to provide valid identity card depicting his or her address in Freetown on surety to be employed in a Government institution in Sierra Leone.
Bail to be approved by the Bench Matter adjourned to the 12th July 2022 for further hearing
