Larceny Suspect Granted Le10 million Bail

 Mohamed Bangura, Hawa Kanu and Santigie Kanu made their first appearance before magistrate Sahr Keikura of Pademba road court No.1 in Freetown on four counts Charges to wit Conspiracy to commit a felony to wit Larceny contrary to law, Larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916, Accessory after the fact contrary to law and Receiving stolen goods contrary to 33(i)of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offence on Monday 9th August 2021 at the Sierra Leone peace keeping and law enforcement Academy Hastings town the western rural area judicial district in Freetown conspired together and with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit Larceny on the same date the second accused person did steal from the said place six Sharp Air conditioners valued five million five hundred thousand Leones (5,500,000) all to the total value of thirty million Leones (33,000,000) property of the Sierra Leone police.

The third accused in count three on the same date at the same place well knowing that the first accused person had stolen seven lengths of air conditioner cables and one communication cable received, harbored, assisted and maintained the property from the said place.

And on count four, the fourth accused person received one Sharp air conditioner valued at five million five hundred thousand (5,500,000) property of the Sierra Leone police.

The Charges were read and explained to the accused persons and the first accused person pleaded guilty on both counts on their first appearance while the second, third and fourth pleaded not guilty

Counsel representing both accused persons A.S Dumbuya applied for bail for the second and fourth accused persons respectively that they are Sierra Leoneans, resident in Freetown and they have fixed abode and they are not a flight risk because they have reliable sureties who are ready to enter into recognizance on their behalf and they will avail themselves before the court on any adjourned date.

He made the application pursuant to section 79 2 and 3 of the Criminal procedure Act No.32 of 1965.

Magistrate Keikura in giving his ruling refused bail for the second accused person and granted the fourth accused persons bail in the sum of ten million Leones or one surety in like sum.

The magistrate said surety must be resident in the western Area and the said surety should produce identity card depicting his or her address in Freetown and the bail must be approved by the DAR

ASP Aminatu Daboh is prosecuting the matter which is adjourned to the 8th September 2021.
