The Minister of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning, Dr. Turad Senesie, has formally presented the National Country Planning Bill to the Parliament of Sierra Leone. The bill was tabled on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the government’s effort to establish a comprehensive framework for national land use and spatial development.

The introduction of the bill reflects the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable development and orderly urbanization throughout Sierra Leone. It aims to provide clear policies and regulations to guide land use planning, zoning, and infrastructure development across the country.

Dr. Senesie emphasized the importance of a well-structured national planning system in supporting economic growth, environmental sustainability, and an improved quality of life for all Sierra Leoneans.

He further noted that the legislation would enhance coordination and devolve responsibilities among government agencies, local authorities, and other stakeholders involved in land management.

Once enacted, the National Country Planning Bill is expected to serve as a vital legal instrument to address the challenges of rapid urbanization, unplanned settlements, and land disputes.

The Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning has pledged to collaborate closely with Parliament and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful passage and implementation of this critical legislation. The Ministry also encourages public participation and feedback as part of the consultative process leading up to the bill’s enactment.
