Land Issues In Sierra Leone Are Going To Be A Thing Of The Past-Lands Commissioner

The newly appointed Commissioner General of the National Lands Commission of Sierra Leone Sheikh Seuabu Sowa has said that the Problem affecting lands in Sierra Leone will properly and amicably be addressed as long as he is at the helm of affairs.

 He made the statement when contacted by A-Z to know the roles and responsibilities of the Commission.

It could be recalled that sometimes in September, 2022 the Commission was established by the government of Sierra Leone with the Primary motive of addressing the many land challenges across the country and to properly manage lands in Sierra Leone.

Meanwhile, this is the  very first time the  government  of Sierra Leone  has created  land  Commission to  ensure  that lands  are properly  managed.

In ensuring  the expectations of the  government  are met, the  newly  appointed Commissioner General of the National Lands  Commission in Sierra Leone Sheikh Seuabu Sowa  stated  that  the Commission  will appoint  district Commissioners across the sixteen (16) Political districts of Sierra Leone who in turn will appoint  Chiefdoms  and Village Commissioners that will be  charged  with the authority to addressing  land challenges in their  chiefdoms and villages.

He added that they will also establish a committee in the various chiefdoms in Sierra Leone and the committees will be headed by Paramount Chiefs and the members will include: individual land owners within the chiefdoms.

“It is a very big responsibility that the government of Sierra Leone has entrusted me with and I pray that God Almighty will strengthen me to work according to the expectations of the government” Commissioner Sowa prayed.

The newly appointed and first land commissioner of Sierra Leone is a renounced GIS specialist with over twelve (12) years postgraduate working experience in Sierra Leone and the West Africa sub regions and has promised to positively use the wealth of experience he has acquired to ameliorate the land challenges experienced in Sierra Leone for decades.
