Land Complaint Committee begins today

Dr. Turad Senesie, Minister of Lands Housing and Country Planning has informed journalists that the newly establish land complaint committee will start sitting today, Tuesday 9th March 2021. The Minister made this disclosure at the usual press briefing on Thursday 4th March 2021 at the Ministry of Information and Communications, 8th Floor, Youyi Building, Freetown.

He said that, the newly formed committee will look into issues of land disputes from April 2018 to January 2021.

“I am here today to tell members of the fourth estate and the general public that we now have a nine (9) man committee.” he disclosed.

The Minister further said that, the committee now have a secretary charged with the responsibility of looking into matters bordering on land disputes within the Western Area.

According to him, the Terms of Reference of the complaint committee is to receive and look into complaints from persons who feel disadvantaged in land allocation between April 2018 and January 2021. And report findings and recommendations to Government for appropriate actions.

He disclosed that the venue of the complaint committee is going to be at Bank Complex, Kingtom, Freetown.

Dr. Turad Senesie highlighted that, what we have done is to look at various interest groups and professional bodies to be part of the complaint committee.

“We have been able to select the people from those bodies including civil societies to be in that particular committee.” he said.

The Minister encouraged the public to take complaints to the said committee to help Government to take precise and decisive action bordering land administration and management.

“The committee will start receiving complaints with respect to land disputes and is going to look into matters of land disputes particularly for the western area.” he said.
