Labourer Sentenced to 12 Months Imprisonment for Mobile Phone Theft

Robin Cole, a labourer, has been sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown by Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura of Pademba Road Court No. 8. He was convicted on a charge of larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, on Saturday, 4th July 2025, at Martin Street in the Western Area of Freetown, the accused stole one HTC mobile phone and one iPhone 8 Plus, with a total value of seven thousand five hundred Leones (Le 7,500), belonging to Isha Abu Bangura.

When the charge was read and explained to Robin Cole, he pleaded guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Amadu Ahmed Sillah, informed the Magistrate of the facts as charged and stated that the accused has no previous criminal record. Both the voluntary caution statement and the charge statement of the accused were produced and tendered in court to form part of the court records.

The accused was not legally represented but pleaded with the Magistrate to temper justice with mercy on his behalf.

Considering the plea and mitigation by the accused, Magistrate Samura sentenced him to twelve months’ imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
