Residents of Kroo bay community who became fire victims has on the 27th September 2021 received donations from various NGO’s organizations, the items include food, clothing and physical cash. The money of which could be a starting point for the fire victims to continue with life despite the bad situation precipitated by the fire accident.
In an interview with A-Z Ibrahim Sidi Sesay, chairman kroo bay community, spoke about the various donor partners that have made tremendous support and contributions towards residents of the affected disaster.
He said the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) which is the leading organization responsible for disaster management in the country and under its auspices all other organizations operate in terms of relaying donations has made tremendous efforts in reaching out to the fire victims.
Mr. Sesay said organizations such as Save the Children donated food items and water to the victims, Red Cross donated household cooking utensils, Goal also donated half a bag of rice to each victims packaged in a black plastic nylon, Concern World Wide also donated the sum of Le500, 000 to each and every affected household victim in addition to food items, clothing, household items to help victims start off with their lives.
He informed A-Z reporter that victims of the incident were left injured but there were no causalities and that the number of injured victims are 18 three of which are severe cases and are being treated at the hospital.
He also noted that plans of rebuilding has not yet been announced as the welfare and upkeep of resident is of challenging concern, he added that the mayor of Freetown her lordship Yvonne Aki Sawyer made visit to residents of the affected disaster and plans of sending food supplies and basic necessities and discussions of a building project would also be on the agenda.
According to residents of the community, the fire started at 4pm and again at 5am in the morning, the fire incident was as a result of electricity glitch that escalated the fire which led to plenty inhabitants becoming homeless and stranded.
Speaking to victims of the incident who expressed gratitude in the early efforts of these organizations in responding to their plight, they pointed out the transparency and equality in the distribution of donations.
