Residents of Kensay and Mbriwomoto communities in Koidu city – Kono District have called on stakeholders concerned to respond to the road cut off owing to a damaged and abandoned bridge linking their community.
Abubakarr Bangura a resident of Mbriwomoto explained that their children attending the Aladura Secondary school are finding it difficult. He said as there is no easy access for the kids to go to school.
Also explaining her ordeal, a pregnant woman at the Mbriwomoto community told our reporter that it has been a difficult task for her to go to the Jericho hospital for medical check-up because of said bridge in a state of disrepair. Residents are saying that the damaged bridge needs to be back filled.
Explaining the cause of the delay with regards backfilling the said bridge, councillor David Tamba Jumbu of Ward 097 told our reporter that the twenty one (21) days period of assurance provided by the engineer was interrupted by the Christmas holiday. He added that there was a mistake done by the engineer of the project which cannot be underestimated to be another reason for the delay of the backfilling of the bridge.
In his response to the concerns raised by the residents, Engineer Aiah George said when doing such construction; you should take all factors into consideration before constructing a bridge. Notwithstanding, Engineer Aiah George pointed out that there is no mistake on the said bridge because according to him, he used technical knowledge to construct the bridge in order to avoid flooding. Engineering Aiah George finally assured the people that the backfilling process will start shortly.
