KONO POLICE DIVISION  FACES MOBILITY CONSTRAINTS FOR SMOOTH OPERATIONS

The line manager at the family support unit (FSU) Motema police divisional Headquarters assistant superintendent of police, Sahr Samuel Jimmy has said that lack of mobility was one of the major challenges that disturbed their operations last year. He made the statement when explaining to our correspondent the challenges they encountered in 2021 while performing their constitutional responsibilities.

ASP Jimmy further stated that, the Motema police division is covering five chiefdoms out of the fourteen (14) Chiefdoms in Kono district, and the mobility constraint in the division prevented them from providing necessary policing in some far to reach areas in their jurisdiction.

He intimated our correspondent that there were lot sexual penetration cases investigated in some far to reach areas at their own determent. The family support unit boss Motema police division however, stated that, their division has only one command vehicle which is used by almost every department at the aforesaid police division. “With these challenges, am afraid, work would be very difficult this year with regards investigation of issues surrounding sexual penetration in some far to reach communities because from the 1st of January to the 18th we have charged to court four sexual penetration cases” ASP Jimmy maintained.

 He thanked the local unit commander (LUC) Motema police division for being so supporting to the family support unit to have achieved most of their success stories last year. Meanwhile, some people in Kono district especially those living in the Towns that fall in the Jurisdiction of the Motema police division have raised serious concerns over the reactive response of the police when they are called upon which many have said cannot be unconnected with mobility constraint they are faced with.
